Greetings from the new Illinois State Society officers and board as we start a new year.
It was my honor to be elected President of the Illinois State Society at our Annual Meeting. We are all grateful for our Immediate Past President Terry Campo’s leadership, as well as the service of the entire 2016-2017 Board of Directors. And, we all must also thank our 2016-2017 Congressional Chair, U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, and Congressional Vice-Chair, U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis for their leadership this past year.
We are now heading into a new membership year with much to look forward to with the Illinois Bicentennial year now before us. We want to thank our new Congressional Chair, U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood, and Congressional Vice-Chair, U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi for taking a leadership role. Our Board is working on a tremendous array of outstanding events, particularly as we head into Illinois’ bicentennial year of statehood.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Earlier this week, the Illinois State Society of Washington, DC announced a scholarship will be named after Lisa Radogno, a longtime congressional staffer who passed away unexpectedly in June 2014. The Lisa Radogno Scholarship will be awarded to a student interning for a Member of Congress from Illinois who has received a nomination from their respective offices for his or her outstanding work. It is a $1,000 scholarship.
Lisa, a La Grange, IL native, began her career in Washington, D.C. as an intern in the office of Congresswoman Judy Biggert, after which she went on to serve on the staff of Congressman Jerry Weller and then Senator Mark Kirk. Following the scholarship announcement, President of the Illinois State Society, Hon. Jerry Weller and Lisa’s parents, Nunzio and Hon. Christine Radogno, shared the following statements:
“The Lisa Radogno I know would be humbled to have a scholarship in her name. She was a fiercely loyal individual who made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She loved Illinois and she loved mentoring young people through their work in Congress. I can’t think of a better way to honor Lisa,” said Weller. “Our family is very gratified the Illinois State Society is funding a Congressional intern scholarship in memory of our daughter, Lisa. It is a fitting and appropriate memorial. Lisa relished the opportunity to work as a congressional intern. She had a tremendous experience that helped launch her too-short career on Capitol Hill. But she never forgot her roots in Illinois and truly enjoyed working with the Illinois State Society. Thank you very much for honoring her memory in this way,” said Nunzio and Christine Radogno.
