Remember Lincoln’s First Inaugural Address at the Old Naval Hospital

Illinois State Society members and friends are invited to remember President Lincoln’s First Inaugural Address at the Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital on Wednesday evening, January 18th.

The program will include delivery of the Address by George Buss of Freeport, Illinois, who will appear at the 2017 Illinois Heartland Ball the following evening.  A panel discussion will be led by Michelle Krowl of the Library of Congress, president of the Abraham Lincoln Institute.  Panelists will include ISS member John Elliff, president of the Lincoln Group of DC, and Michael F. Bishop, Director of the National Churchill Library and Center at George Washington University.   Co-sponsors are the Lincoln Group of DC, President Lincoln’s Cottage and the Abraham Lincoln Association.   A reception with light hors d’oeuvres will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the John Phillip Sousa Hall, and the program will follow in the Abraham Lincoln Hall at 7:00 p.m.

Apply to be the 2017 Illinois Cherry Blossom Princess

Hello Illinois State Society Members,

While we wish you a very happy holiday season, we are already looking ahead to Spring, and crowning the next Illinois Cherry Blossom Princess! Please connect us with those interested in applying for the Illinois Cherry Blossom Princess position. The application is Due January 5, 2017. Our Princess will represent Illinois during the National Cherry Blossom Festival, 1-8 April 2017.

This is a great opportunity to represent Illinois while connecting with other women leaders (aged 19 to 24) during a week-long festival in our nation’s capital. The following are attached:

· A list of required qualifications to be the Illinois Princess
· Directions for your Statement of Interest
· A Biographical Questionnaire

If a candidate meets the requirements and is interested in applying, she should submit her Statement of Interest, the Biographical Questionnaire, a digital photo, and resume to angela.osborne33@gmail.com no later than Midnight 5 January 2017. The Illinois State Society will notify the winner of our selection by 15 January 2017.

Celebrate the 198th Anniversary of Illinois Statehood at the Lithuanian Embassy! 

Hello Illinois State Society Members & Friends,
 
We have the privilege of being invited to the Lithuanian Embassy on Saturday evening, December 3rd, and hosted by Ambassador Rolandas Krisciunas.  We have a very limited capacity for this special event, and invite you to reserve your ticket now so you can join us in celebrating Illinois’ close ties with Lithuania.
 
What:  Celebration of Illinois Statehood at the Lithuanian Embassy

RSVP:  Guests must RSVP below for admittance.  Ticketing will close when the event reaches capacity.

Details:  Illinois State Society Members only have to pay a $10 Reservation Fee, which will benefit the Honorable Abner Mikva Scholarship Fund.  Non-members can attend by becoming members and paying the Reservation Fee.
