Volunteer Public Consultant for the Public Policy Office of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Primary responsibility is to collaborate with the members of the Public Policy Office in their lobbying activities on Capitol Hill.
Stephen Zimmerman’s previous practice encompassed being a member at the Dykema law firm. Dykema is a nationwide law firm, with an important presence in Chicago and Springfield, serving a broad array of clients on legal and government relations matters. He represented clients before federal agencies and Congress, including the Illinois Congressional delegation, in the areas of tax policy, financial services and international trade. His practice also extended to state insurance regulators, including the Illinois Department of Insurance and state legislators, in representing insurance companies on issues involving holding company filing compliance including corporate restructuring, investment portfolios, market conduct, rates and form filings and reinsurance.
For the last decade, Mr. Zimmerman has been a member of the Illinois Group, which has complemented his firm’s work for a variety of Illinois clients. In addition, for the past 30 years, he has served as U.S. legislative and regulatory counsel for the Canadian life insurance industry which has a well-established market presence in Illinois. He has represented the Canadian life insurers on port of entry legislation and tax legislation before the U.S. Congress.
Mr. Zimmerman previously served as a Member of Dykema’s Executive Board and as the Managing Member of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Prior to joining Dykema, Mr. Zimmerman also served as Legal Counsel in the Office of Legislative Affairs for the U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Transportation.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Thiel College and his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University.
